Locally-owned Government

Salem operates under a Board of Selectmen-Town Meeting form of Government, which permits maximum participation of the registered voters and property owners in civic affairs.  The annual budget and all Town ordinances are approved by Town Meetings.  Salem is a community of Volunteers that provides the services and amenities of a modern Town through a combination of paid employees and many conscientious residents.  This individual ownership of government contributes to the safe, clean and neighborly community so proud it its volunteers.

Highest Standards in Education

Salem children attend Salem School, a K-8 school with an enrollment of about 500 students.  Children also have the opportunity to apply to the Regional Multi-Cultural Magnet School for grades K-5.  High School students attend East Lyme High School in neighboring East Lyme.  The Salem School District boasts some of the highest performance ratings for excellence in education.

Active Clubs and Organizations in Salem

Information about clubs and organizations can be obtained from Town Hall and Salem School.  Clubs and organizations include:  Salem Seniors, Salem Mom’s Club, Boy Scouts, Girl Scouts, Adventure Club, Salem Lions Club, Salem Historical Society, Salem VFW, Friends of the Library, and Salem Land Trust.
