Guide to Acquiring a Building Permit

Permit Fee Schedule
PLEASE CONTACT US FOR THE EXACT FEE AMOUNT via e-mail (building@salemct.gov) or telephone (860 859 3873, x250) during business hours to ensure that the proper payment is made and to avoid any delays in the processing of your permit(s).

You may opt to pay online via Credit Card, Debit or Electronic Check (non-refundable transaction fee applies) or drop off/mail your check, payable to the Town of Salem, in the white drop box located in front of Town Hall.

PERMIT APPLICATION FORMS
Submission of the form(s) does not constitute the approval/issuance of the permit. All submitted applications must be approved by the respective departments prior to the issuance of the permit

Application forms must be accompanied by a copy of the Contractor's License and Certificate of Insurance indicating Workers Compensation coverage for the contractor or the relevant Workers Compensation Waiver form, if applicable.

  • Residential Application Form

  • Commercial Application Form
    Please contact us for the exact fee amount to ensure that the proper payment is made and to avoid any delays in the processing of your permit(s).
  • Residential Pool Application Packet
    Requires the information provided on the Pool Data Requirements sheet.

  • Demolition Application Packet
    Includes Salem, Uncas Health District, and State Notification Forms

  • Driveway Permit Application Form
    Fee is $25. May require a submission of a Bond.
  • Propane Tank Application Form
    Requires the submission of a plot plan indicating the locations of the residence and propane tank(s). Zoning Permit Application for above-ground tanks and Residential or Commercial Application must also be submitted.
  • Zoning Permit Application Form
    Requires the submission of a plot plan indicating the locations of the residence and proposed construction. The plan must also indicate the dimensions of the construction and separating distances from respective property lines. A Zoning Permit Application Form is required for all above-ground items.
    Refer to page 171 of the Salem Zoning Regulations for Salem Zoning fee amounts. State Zoning fee of $60 also applies.
  • Uncas Health District B100a
    Requires the submission of a plot plan indicating the locations of the residence and proposed construction. The plan must also indicate the dimensions of the construction and separating distances from the septic system and well. See sample plot plan for guidance.
    Minimum fee of $75 (made out the the Uncas Health District)
