Tropical Storm Henri

August 20th, 2021

Dear Fellow Townspeople,

A hurricane watch is in effect for New London County.  Tropical Storm Henri is predicted to intensify into a category one hurricane with impacts to our town beginning Sunday afternoon into Monday.  Moderate tree and power line damage is possible.

Today and tomorrow should be used to prepare for this storm event.

Below are some sample items that can be used to prepare an emergency kit;
• Water and non-perishable food for several days
• Extra cell phone battery or charger Battery-powered or hand crank radio that can receive NOAA Weather Radio tone alerts and extra batteries
• Flashlight and extra batteries
• First aid kit
• Whistle to signal for help
• Dust mask, to help filter contaminated air and plastic sheeting and duct tape to shelter-in-place
• Moist towelettes, garbage bags and plastic ties for personal sanitation
• Non-sparking wrench or pliers to turn off utilities
• Can opener (if kit contains canned food)

Please check on your elderly neighbors that may be living alone and offer to assist them.

We will be sending further updates throughout the weekend.

Respectfully,

Kevin T. Lyden
First Selectman
