PERMIT APPLICATIONS
Permit applications can be returned via mail, e-mail or placed in the drop box located outside of Town Hall. Applications are available online. Please ensure that all permit applications are accompanied with:

 

  • a copy of your Trade License
  • Certificate of Insurance (with Workers Compensation) or a completed 7A, 7B or 7C form
  • any applicable drawings, plans, and/or plot plan
  • permit fee(s)
    PLEASE CONTACT US FOR THE EXACT FEE AMOUNT via e-mail or telephone during business hours to ensure that the proper amount is submitted and avoid any delays in the processing of your permit(s). Fees may be paid online at: https://client.pointandpay.net/web/TownofSalemBuildingandRecreation. Please note that all credit/debit/online payments include an additional non-refundable convenience fee, charged by the third-party company.

Applications for Zoning Permits, the Uncas Health District, Propane Tank Installation, and Insurance Waiver Forms may be accessed here.

 

 

 

All Uncas Health District forms require a minimum review fee of $50.00 (made out to the Uncas Health District). Please contact them directly for the fee(s) for a new home construction and/or for any questions you might have at: (860) 823-1189.

 

Zoning Permits require a fee of either $85.00 (Accessory Structures over 100SF) or $110.00 (Main Building or Primary Use Structure).

 

Please ensure that the location and distances from the property line and well and septic are clearly indicated on the plot plan. Should you need a copy of your property’s plot plan, please contact the office via phone or e-mail.

 

 

INSPECTIONS

Inspections are generally conducted in-person Monday through Thursday, between 6:30 a.m. and 8:00 a.m.

Mission Statement

The Building Department is responsible for the issuance of building, electrical, plumbing, mechanical, demolition and change of occupancy permits.

Who Needs a Permit?

A permit is required whenever any owner or authorized agent intends to construct, enlarge, alter, repair, move, demolish, or change the occupancy of a building or structure, or to erect, install, enlarge, alter, repair, remove, convert or replace any electrical, gas, mechanical, or plumbing system. These requirements pertain to all buildings and structures, including one and two family structures.
