A Sailor’s Life - Tuesday, June 21, 2022 @1:00 p.m. Presented by Mystic Seaport. Sailor’s Sea Chest - Participants will explore items that a sailor would have packed for a long journey at sea. Suitable for grades K-5. 1:30 p.m. Sea Chanteys for Make Music Day @ 1:30 p.m., suitable for all ages! Sing along with one of the Museum’s renowned musician educator’s. The chantey staff will make a sailor’s work come alive with stories through music! This event will be held at the Salem Community Park Pavilion, 89 Norwich Road, Salem, CT.

Make Music Day - Tuesday, June 21, 2022 - We are giving away free Fender harmonicas in celebration of Make Music Day! The kit will include a Harmonica for Kids book , one per family. Limited to 15. Call to reserve a kit and pick up at the library.

Storytime - Monday, June 27, 2022 @ 10:30 - Crawly Critters! Stories, songs and activities or ages 3-5. Limit 12.

Storytime - Monday, July 25, 2022 @ 10:30 a.m.. Yikes! Sharks!-Stories, songs and activities for ages 3-5. Limit 12.

Author Event with Erica Cirino - Wednesday, August 10, 2022 @ 6:30 p.m. Erica Cirino, the author of Thicker than Water: The Quest for Solutions to the Plastic Crisis, will talk about her journey around the world to meet scientists and activists that are telling the real story of the plastic crisis. Books will be available for sale and signing. The program will be held indoors @ the Salem Free Public Library. (Change of venue). Limited to 22 participants.

Live Birds of Prey with A Place Called Hope - Family Program - Wednesday, August 17, 2022 @ 6:00 p.m. The audience will get to meet two daytime hunters and two nighttime hunters. Learn each bird’s story of survival and ways to lessen conflict with the wildlife in your own backyard. RAIN DATE: Friday, August 19, 2022 @ 2:00 p.m. This event will be held at the Salem Community Park Pavilion, 89 Norwich Road, Salem, CT. Limited to 30 attendees.

 

2022 Summer Reading: Read Beyond the Beaten Path

Our 2022 summer reading program will begin on Monday, June 27, 2022 and end on Monday, August 15, 2022. Registration, logging of reading and random drawings will be via READsquared.

Chalk the Walk! Sidewalk Chalk Art @ the Library - Wednesday, June 29, 2022 from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. Create sidewalk chalk art on the designated sidewalks on the side of the library. Each participant will receive their own bag of chalk to usefor the program and to take home, while supplies last. Card prompts will be available if you need some ideas of what to draw! Limited to 16 participants.

Sand - Wednesday, July 6, 2022 @ 2:00 p.m. Presented by the Kellogg Environmental Center. Learn about sand and what it is made of. The program includes the use of microscopes and a hand lens to view a collection of sand from CT beaches, streams and lakes, as well as an art project using paint made from CT soils. Limited to 20 children ages 5 & up.

Reading the Map - Tuesday, July 12, 2022 @ 2:00 p.m. Presented by the Denison Pequotsepos Nature Center. When out on the trail, you can’t always depend on your phone! Learn how to read trail signs, use a paper map and compass and discuss hiking preparedness. Limited to 20 participants. Ages 7 & up.

Wild Animals of our Region – Tuesday July 19, 2022 @ 3:00 p.m. Join Chief Ranger, Bill Reid, of The Last Green Valley, to explore and learn about the wild animals of our region. Participants will have an opportunity to closely examine skull models of several mammals and to identify their individual characteristics and habits. Limited to 20 children, ages 5 & up.

Kid’s Guide to Tree ID - Tuesday, August 2 @ 2:00 p.m. Presented by the Denison Pequotsepos Nature Center. Practice your tree identification skills, meet several DPNC animals that rely on trees in the wild and make a leaf rubbing craft. Limited to 20 participants, ages 5+.
