Tonight! Salem Recreation's FREE Fun Run Series

Complete 4 of 6 Runs for a Sweet Treat!

Salem Recreation Fun Run Series

2023 Fun Run I
Fun Run I
Salem Recreation's first Fun Run was fun and hot! We had 16 participate in the 1-mile run/walk/stroll, and 7 runners in the 3-mile course. It was once around the Bingham Field track and then into the woods to follow the trails as the finishers could all claim course records and the unique status of Charter Members of the Fun Run! The 1-mile was a great opportunity for the youngsters to try their legs at running, and for parents to accompany them for that shorter time and distance, or warm up for the 3-mile run. After the race, the kids got to pick out a toy from the treasure chest and cooled off with ice pops. Participants ranged from some of Salem's elite runners, parents with their kids, and a guy carrying a plastic cow.

Participants who make 4 of the 6 Fun Runs are eligible to receive a gift certificate for a FREE cup or cone from Salem Valley Farms Ice Cream, so there is still an opportunity to win this special treat! The ice pops from Big Y and the treasures from Another Man's Treasure were offered as a nice surprise to the finishers. Many thanks to our sponsors!

We can't wait to do it again! See you for the next Fun Run on Tuesday, July 18. Register at the big tree at Bingham Field (Salem School track) beginning at 5:00 pm. 5:30 starts the 1-mile run/walk/stroll, and runners will start at 6:00 for the 3-mile. Based on feedback, there will be slight adjustments to the courses, so check it out! Next Fun Runs will be Tuesdays, July 25, August 1, 8, and 15.

2023 Fun Run II
Fun Run II
The sky cleared up just in time to kick off the second in the Fun Run series on Tuesday, July 18! Both routes were adjusted to add a bit more distance, and we had new and returning runners. Reminder – finishing 4 of the 6 Fun Runs earns our runners a free ice cream from Salem Valley Farms. There are still 4 opportunities to earn this treat!

We had 9 runners take part in the Beginners Run/Walk. If anyone was ever in doubt about the power of encouragement, you should have been here to see the spirit of a 4-year-old reignite as a crowd of onlookers cheered her towards the finish line.

The newly reconfigured 3-mile run was tested, and approved, by one adult. He was quite the runner and, along with being a cross country star from the high school, used this time to run the track and trails a few times to get in a good workout with his family.

That's what this is about…fun, fitness, family, and encouragement! The treasures and treats add even more fun. See you next week!
